O’Brien Service Company owner Jimmy Williams was born and raised in Wilmington, His dream was to one day work for GE as a machinist. Instead, he was hired at the City of Wilmington Fire department and would work there for 27 years. However, that was not all that was in store for Jimmy Williams.
Jimmy attended The Church of God of Prophecy from a young age. One day the pastor asked for volunteers to take the HVAC course at Cape Fear Tech to keep the units serviced. Jimmy was one of those volunteers.
After he graduated from the course, he volunteered for Donald O’Brien (does this name ring a bell?). Donald had the reputation of having exceptional HVAC knowledge and Jimmy wanted to learn from the best.
When Donald retired, Jimmy and a friend, Spike, bought the company and went into business together. Later, Spike sold Jimmy his share of the company.
For the past 40 years, O’Brien Service Company has been locally owned and operated. In those four decades, Jimmy’s favorite lesson is “you like things but you love people”. He says time and time again that God has been good to him, his family, and O’Briens.
