1 STAR — UPDATED REVIEWI hired O'Brien Service Company to clean my dryer vent. The first technician used a camera and ran my dryer to help push lint through the system, then told me the vent was clean. After ONE dryer cycle, I had significant moisture at the lint trap and my dryer began having the same sensor-related problem from moisture that I had resolved before hiring O'Brien. When I called, I was met with a defensive and combative response. I was told they had pictures proving the vent was cleaned and later that lint from inside my dryer may have clogged the vent again. There also seemed to be little urgency in getting someone back out. I work six days a week and have essentially one day to do laundry, yet I still had to work around both my schedule and theirs. When a second O'Brien technician finally came out, he discovered what the first technician had missed: my dryer exhausts through the roof, and the roof exhaust was clogged with lint. He cleared it and told me that obstruction was the cause of the venting problem. After I posted my original review, O'Brien called me. Their representative told me he spoke with “the powers that be” and that they believe “without a doubt” my current dryer problem is the dryer itself and not their responsibility. Their position is essentially that they made things right by coming back and clearing what the first technician missed. To me, that's like paying a mechanic to replace a bad spark plug, being told everything is good, then having an overlooked defective plug contribute to engine damage. The mechanic eventually replaces the plug and says, “We fixed the plug, so the engine damage is your problem.”Correcting an overlooked problem afterward doesn't answer whether damage occurred while that problem was still present.I'm NOT claiming O'Brien damaged my dryer without evidence. I have an independent appliance technician coming to diagnose it. If they determine the dryer problem is unrelated to the clogged exhaust, I'll update this review and say so. If they determine restricted airflow, heat, or moisture from the overlooked obstruction caused or contributed to the failure, I'll update it accordingly and pursue the appropriate channels.Mistakes happen. What makes this a one-star experience is how the mistake was handled. I paid to have my dryer vent cleaned, was told it was clear when it wasn't, and O'Brien's own second technician ultimately found the obstruction the first technician missed.I would have had a completely different opinion had O'Brien simply acknowledged the mistake and waited for an independent diagnosis before declaring “without a doubt” that the resulting dryer problem couldn't be their responsibility.I'll update this review after the independent appliance diagnosis.

This is a reliable company. Called 2 hrs in advance and Kyle was right there w knowledge and professionalism. I haven't used a company so proficient in this town in a while. I really appreciate the honesty and attention to detail. Will use again will recommend.Called about a gas leak about 1 week ago. Had multiple people tell me they couldn't come out and after days of disrepair I finally had a stoke of luck w this company within hours we had a game plan and within the week we were back up and running. Can't thank them enough. Can't praise them enough !!!

If there was a zero, I would have picked it! Called for an installation of an “under the sink DIY water filter that should take approximately one hour. Chat GBT said the cost for the professional installation is between $150-300. I called O’Brien’s as I didn’t want to do it. They came out and estimated $904!!!! Are you kidding me? A surgeon makes around $215 an hour to replace your knee!!! Never will I use this company.

We had a leak in our ceiling and Ryan, and colleague came out to check. They cut the ceiling board to check, and it was not a plumbing issue but a HVAC issue. They made arrangements for HVAC to come out, and they diligently cleaned up the debris that came from the ceiling being cut. They kept us informed about the progress they were making as they checked inside the ceiling. I was very impressed with their work ethic and manners and their expertise.

My experience with O’Brien Service has always been exceptional. From the time they send a technician out to diagnose problem until situation is resolved, every person is very professional and knowledgeable. Matt Buckingham explains everything up front, quotes the job, and schedules when the work is to be done. With this most recent improvement to my upstairs unit to prevent condensation, technicians Gauge, Nick, Eli were wonderful to work with and take care of every detail, including total cleanup. I can highly recommend this company for any HVAC needs! Thank you, O’Brien Service team!!!

I had the best possible experience with O'Brien. As part of a government program, I was able to have a new heat pump installed in my home. O'Brien was the company I selected for purchase and installation, and it was the best decision I could have made. Every single step in the process was seamless: from my first phone call to O'Brien to county inspection following installation of the Trane system. It was.quite a job! Jeremy Heise came over first, reviewed everything (my decrepit systems, the best heat pump for my small house, and what was involved in approvals by EnergySaverNC who was responsible for the project). Jeremy made what could have been a difficult process for me an easy one to understand. The two-day removal/installation was scheduled in no time and went without a hitch. Mike Bennett handled all walk-throughs: his attention to detail was remarkable, The work was performed by very, very skilled technicians who were also a joy to have in the house – JT Walsh, Steven Clark, Carson from Meade Electric. Jeremy was always available, Tyler Criteser and Jared Leclair came by later to double-check the fuse box: terrific technicians and wonderful guys. Abby Modlin was my patient, intrepid scheduler who also sorted out all my questions. Every one of them went over and beyond for me. Apologies for anyone I forgot to mention: you were fabulous, too. I recommend them as highly as I can and without reservation. Thank you so much, everybody. My house feels wonderful for the first time in years. It's a home.

Several weeks ago, and one of the hottest days of the year, our HVAC unit went out Saturday morning 4:30 a.m. I called the afterhours number and left a message and indicated I was a member of the Energy Savings Club. I was contacted soon after and was advised they could have a technician at our house within 4 hours. I got a call from Jared LeClair around 11:00 indicating he would arrive in 20 minutes. He was very thorough in checking our unit to find the problem. He determined we had a bad circuit breaker and would have to drive across town to get a replacement at the shop in order to match our electrical panel. He took the time to drive to the shop and return with a new circuit breaker. After replacing the breaker our unit was back! He still wasn't happy with one of the numbers and added freon to the unit which did the trick. I can't say enough for his attitude and the prompt service from O'Brien. I am extremely glad I am a member of their Energy Savings Club too as I got preferred/quick service, and a discount on my invoice. A++ for O'Brien

Joe first came to our home to investigate why it was very hot on one side of the house and very cold on the other side. Joe was very polite and explained exactly what was happening and how it could be fixed to ensure it never happened again. Unfortunately the prior service we used was never a reliable or sound ac/heat company. Joe explained the current system the other company used may or may not last. I asked Joe to draw up what he thought would be the best for our current situation. Well the old system lasted three days!! We requested Joe to fix the problem with the system he provided details of. Joe did an outstanding job during the extreme heat we’ve had recently! We highly recommend Joe for any type of ac/heating issues you may have today or in the future. He’s very professional and knowledgeable!! We also highly recommend O’Brians! Excellent service always!!

I called them out spent a lot of time telling them about the specific large scope of work and set an appointment. They came out within 24 hrs. I spent about 45 minutes with them. They went into their truck and said we will have a quote for you today. I was a bit surprised but ok, then an hour later I walked out to tap on the truck window to give them all of my contact info and said you can send it to me. Feeling bad that had been sitting in their car for like an hour. They left and said we have to get our manager to get this together and we will get it to you tomorrow. That sounded more realistic. A week later I called to only hear that your job it too big, too much and we can’t handle that with our crew size. Ok but at what point should this have been determined when the call was taken with the list “scope of work?” No they didn’t even call me to tell me this is not something they could do. If you have a typical small job they are your people but that’s it. So unprofessional

O'Brien Service Company recently replaced all the air flow tubing on our HVAC system and installed a media filter. It started with Kris, the salesman that visited our home, inspecting the system, addressed every question we had and prepared a reasonable offer that compelled us to retain O'Brien to perform the work we needed done. (We interviewed 3 of their competitors as well.) They even offered us a 3 year interest free loan, that we took advantage of!! Will and his team were great to work with. While the temperature in the attic was 130 degrees the 3 of them were undeterred and completed the job in the time planned for the removal and replacement of the air flow tubing along with making improvements in the air flow to rooms where there was barely any air flow coming thru the vents. Their tenacity in making sure we were satisfied was obvious in everything they did. Highly recommend talking with O'Brien if you have need of the services they offer. Janet and Larry Gorski

Great experience from start to finish! We discovered what appeared to be a water leak inside a wall around 7pm one evening. We called the after hours line and within minutes Kevin (HVAC supervisor) diagnosed the problem over the phone as a plumbing issue and referred it to an Obrien plumber, who come out right away. Fantastic company! The entire team was courteous, professional, and extremely thorough throughout the whole process. They replaced one of our older A/C units and even provided temporary A/C units while we waited for the new installation, which made a huge difference for our family. The workers were knowledgeable, competent, and respectful of our home. Everything was explained clearly, and the installation went smoothly. We truly appreciated the excellent customer service and attention to detail. Highly recommend for HVAC services in the Wilmington area!

Always courteous, professional, and thorough. Service today from Dillon and he took the time to thoroughly investigate our issue and also to explain what was going on and all of our options.

We had Obrien install a complete new HVAC system on our first floor and could not be happier with the entire process of working with them. From the first visit, going over our home space, to the financial options and finally the installation team, everything went absolutely smooth, was totally transparent, and we’re looking forward to being part of the Obrien family.

They are extremely professional and extremely competent. We had our dryer vent cleaned and we live on the fourth of a condo building and they cleaned the vent from inside. I would recommend them to anyone….without hesitation or reservation.

“We had a problem with excess humidity in one of our rooms and thought it was a torn duct. We called O'Brien who performs our HVAC Service and within a day, Mike, a service technician came out and do a thorough inspection of our HVAC system.
He discovered an open window in that room covered by interior shutters which we did not notice-it had been open for at least a week during really high temperatures.
He was very kind and understanding even though I felt like a complete idiot (which I was).
There was no charge!
I am staying with O'Brien and will use them when it comes time to replace our system.”
