When it comes time to install a new heating system in the greater Wilmington area, you have a lot to consider. In fact, it can be difficult to determine whether you even need to replace anything at all.
There are a few factors that can give you a hint that it might be time to think about replacing your heating system. The first is if your system is older than ten years old; even if it’s running great, older systems are not as energy-efficient as newer systems. A second clue is if you’re needing repair after repair; why keep putting money into an old system that might not last much longer? Finally, you might need your heating system replaced if your energy bills are extremely high; this might just be due to the age of your system. Having a heating installation done isn’t something you deal with often, but we do, so let us help you through this decision.
Selecting a New Heater
So how do you know what the best option is? Well, the easiest thing to do is call O’Brien Service Company and talk to one of our comfort specialists. That’s what we’re here for! We offer complimentary in-home evaluations; during this visit, we will properly measure your home and perform a load calculation. From there, we can explain the best options to heat your home as well as the different financing options available with approved credit. O’Brien’s skilled technicians can remove any type of system and replace it with one of the following system options.
Gas Furnaces
Here at O’Brien, we offer Trane gas furnaces as an option to heat your home. There are many choices of gas furnaces to select from, and our comfort specialists will be glad to explain the differences for you. The two main ways they differ are their efficiency rating or AFUE and the stage heating level (which affects the level of heat output). This heating installation option is more popular in Northern states, but some prefer this heating system, and we’ll be happy to install it for you. If you’re considering replacing or adding a gas furnace for the first time, give O’Brien a call to assist you with all your questions.
Heat Pumps
Heat pumps are a great way to heat and also cool your home. In our region, this is the most popular heating installation choice. This system is a central heating and cooling system that consists of the heat pump, which is the outdoor unit, and an indoor air handler. Trane offers a wide range of heat pumps. Depending on how high of an efficiency rating you’re looking for, we can help you pick the perfect fit for your home. For more information on heat pumps, we have a whole page that goes into more detail on how heat pumps work.
Geothermal
A geothermal system, like a heat pump, is a central heating and cooling system. This system is installed by using underground coils and an indoor air handler. These systems are energy efficient because the underground coils use the earth’s natural energy to heat and cool your home. The installation of a geothermal system is, in most cases, pricier than other systems; however, with the financing we offer and the tax credits that are available, it’s well worth its value. When deciding on this system, it’s also important to note the energy savings over time; this can save you monthly money on those pesky energy bills. If you’re interested in learning more, visit our geothermal site, or call to speak with one of our comfort specialists at the office.
Ductless Mini Split Systems
A ductless system will heat and cool separate rooms of your home; it can also be used throughout your home. This system consists of an outdoor unit as well as indoor units that are mounted to a wall or installed in the ceiling. You can either have one indoor unit just to provide heating and cooling to a specific room, or you can install multiple indoor units to mount in several rooms of your home. This heating installation is in most cases a lot less challenging; as the name suggests, these systems do not use ductwork. They are great for homes that don’t already have existing ductwork, or for new additions. Ductless systems are energy efficient because of the fact that they provide a zoning system. This simply means you can change the temperature of separate rooms without affecting the whole home. We are a certified Mitsubishi Diamond Dealer and offer a wide range of their ductless systems; for more information about ductless mini-split systems, give our office a call.

“I purchased a Trane heating and cooling system from O’Brien Service Co in December 2014. It was installed perfectly and I have not had a single problem with the system. When it was time for the system’s annual checkup, Jimmy F. was the technician who did the inspection. Jimmy is very competent and also very neat when working on the system. He is friendly and courteous and efficient. Additionally, he brought with him a year’s worth of filters for the system, which would otherwise have been shipped to me; just another example of his efficiency and kindness. Ever since the system was installed, I have had only excellent experiences with every technician that has serviced the unit. A truly fine company that rises to whatever occasion may occur.” -Betty M.
