It’s that frustrating time of the year. One moment it’s warm and beautiful the next you’re freezing. The weather in Wilmington NC can be so unpredictable. If you’re confused by the weather, imagine how your HVAC system must feel! Lucky for us there is an auto thermostat setting. Not sure what the auto thermostat setting is? This article will explain how it works, how it’ll benefit your system, and how to purchase a Tstat with this setting if you don’t already have one.
How Does the Auto Setting Work?
The auto thermostat setting helps keep your home at a comfortable temperature no matter what the temperature does outside. First, it’ll switch your system from heating to cooling on its own. You only pick two set points. One that is the warmest you want your home to be, and one the coolest you want your home to be. For example, you pick 75° and 70°. When your home reaches above 75° your air conditioning will automatically kick on to cool your home. Once below the 75° mark, the system will turn back off. If your home gets cooler than 70°, your heat setting will automatically come on.
How Does the Auto Thermostat Setting Help?
The auto thermostat setting helps maintain a comfortable temperature without you having to lift a finger! While between the two set points the system is off, which can help lower energy bills. The further apart the set points are, the more energy you can save. It is recommended to have at least a 5° difference between the two set points. If not, your system will come on too often which will affect the energy savings. During mild temperatures with correct set points, your system may not have to run at all!
