About the Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina:
The mission of the Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina is: No One Goes Hungry in Central & Eastern North Carolina.
Established in 1980, the Food Bank is a nonprofit organization that has provided food for people at risk of hunger in 34 counties for 30 years. The Food Bank serves a network of more than 800 partner agencies such as soup kitchens, food pantries, shelters, and programs for children and adults through distribution centers in Durham, Greenville, New Bern, Raleigh, the Sandhills (Southern Pines) and Wilmington.
Sadly, hunger remains a serious problem in central and eastern North Carolina. In these counties, more than 560,000 struggle each day to provide enough food for their families.
Our Community:
The Wilmington Branch of the Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina serves 4 counties in southeastern North Carolina. They are Brunswick, Columbus, New Hanover and Pender counties.
In the counties served by the Wilmington branch, over 69,000 individuals are at risk of hunger; over 20,000 are children and 7% are 65 years and over.
Our Community:
Nearly 300,000 children in our 34 counties are in the free and reduced-cost breakfast and lunch programs at school. For them, summertime doesn’t mean a fun filled vacation; for them, no school means no meals.
Stop Summer Hunger is a community-wide food and funds drive held during June and July to provide the additional food needed to support these children and their families, as well as supporting our kids summer meals programs. The campaign helps the Food Bank put food on the table for nearly 300,000 local children through our branches in Durham, Greenville, New Bern, Sandhills and Wilmington during the summer months when our donations tend to slow down and our resources are scarce.
How to Donate:
During the month of July O’Brien Service Company will be collecting food donations to give to the Stop Summer Hunger program.
